Age UK, received a Foundation grant to support their local ‘Friends Ageing Better Service’. This important service offered two different programmes that targeted older people who are unable to leave their homes for social activities. Firstly, a weekly telephone group was hosted, with hour long group conversations using the phone, either landline or mobile. The second programme was a weekly Art Club, delivered on Zoom for housebound over 50’s, who are unable to participate classes in-person.
Age UK reported, participants enjoyed the sessions and wanted to attend regularly. Sessions created a sense of community within the group and providing regular social interaction. There was a growing sense of belonging that reduced feelings of isolation which helps to delay cognitive decline caused by isolation.
