The foundation grant gives The Grace Period Project (TGPP) a boost. TGPP offers support for period poverty in North Somerset, while raising the profile and understanding of periods in the community. One in seven girls (15%) struggle to afford sanitary wear (Plan International, 2018). As a direct consequence of this, women and girls are missing school and work due to fear of leaking when using inadequate period products, such as toilet roll.
The Foundation grant will allow TGPP to supply ‘Grace bags’ containing free period products to over 60 people across North Somerset every month. These bags contain a month’s supply of tampons and pads plus a wellbeing tea bag, chocolate and some intimate cleansing wipes. TGPP said: ‘With the grant from the Sirona Foundation, we plan to expand our support across North Somerset to raise awareness about period poverty and reduce the stigma around periods.’
